Scene from the teaser trailer of Phil Watson's new cartoon 'The Christmas Story' Creating a Christmas Cartoon
Australian animator Phil Watson is working with the Bible Society of New South Wales to produce a short cartoon animation of the Christmas story. The video will be shown on YouTube and also given away as a free download. The animation is narrated using straight Bible text. "The aim is to simply tell the Bible story in a modern and engaging way without any denominational bias – apart from an Australian angle!" writes Watson. There is a short teaser trailer on the Cartoon Bible YouTube channel. The animation has been created to be easily translatable into other languages. Watson adds, "I hope to work towards creating a whole animated Gospel which will inspire the YouTube generation to 'read' the Bible and fall in love with Jesus."

Tyndale says that the company has received 'a few strong reactions to the comment' but that overall 'people have loved the DVD, and sales are building steadily.' Joke Generates Big (Bad) Bang
VeggieTales co-creator Phil Vischer has come under fire for a joking reference to the "big bang theory" in the first video of his 13-part What's in the Bible? DVD series from Tyndale House. Tyndale received written complaints from "a few fans" and at least one Christian bookstore saying the reference to the theory was "anti-Christian" and could "cause confusion" among kids. Vischer has attempted to address the concerns through his blog and direct contact with some critics. "The Bible is always correct in what it says. We - as humans - are sometimes incorrect in our interpretations of what it means," Vischer writes. "Let's agree on the facts, and agree that it's okay sometimes to disagree on how we interpret those facts." Lorena Allen, manager of Harvest Bookstore in Illinois USA, says, "I understand his response, but ... it is not 'in the Bible' and is not theologically a neutral subject."

The message of 'Sweetpea Beauty—A Girl After God's Own Heart' is that 'God looks at the heart and not on our outward appearance.' Veggies Target Niche Audiences
Big Idea is releasing the "first-ever VeggieTales episode just for girls" this month. Mike Nawrocki, co-creator of VeggieTales and now vice president of creative development, says the idea for Sweetpea Beauty—A Girl After God's Own Heart came about when Big Idea General Manager Leslie Ferrell suggested making "a show about inner beauty." Nawrocki admits "it's not the first thing a development team of three guys would think of. But we embraced the challenge ... being fathers of daughters ourselves." Big Idea is working on other targeted episodes including one in partnership with World Vision on "a lesson in serving others."

The mission of the Media Research Center is to bring balance to the news media. Network Displays Double Standard
Just weeks after Comedy Central executives censored a program because of its depiction of Muhammad, the network announced it has a new cartoon series in development that mocks Christianity. Entitled "JC", the show will depict Jesus living in contemporary New York City trying to "escape his father’s enormous shadow." According to Comedy Central, God is an "all-powerful yet apathetic father [who] would rather be playing video games than listening to JC recount his life in the city." Comedy Central calls it "a playful take on religion," but the Media Research Center is launching a citizen petition to protest the cable network's obvious double standard.

Vischer will speak at the America's Center in St. Louis, MO USA, during the 2010 ICRS in June. More on Vischer and What's in the Bible?
Storyteller Phil Vischer will welcome attendees at the Sunday evening "Pacesetter" event at this year’s International Christian Retail Show in St. Louis, MO USA. Social media has been an integral part of the launch with a website, blog with a video, Twitter page and Facebook page introducing the new series.

Vischer says, 'Watching my kids as consumers has made me a much smarter producer.' Vischer Unveils "VeggieTales Version 2"
VeggieTales creator Phil Vischer, owner of Jellyfish Labs, was interviewed in the March 2010 issue of Christian Retailing about his new
What's in the Bible? DVD series from Tyndale House. "I think VeggieTales did a good job teaching individual Bible stories and Christian values," says Vischer. "What we're trying to do now, though, is connect all those dots to show kids the big picture ... I think it's the next step after VeggieTales – sort of 'VeggieTales v2.' " Vischer is also involving Focus on the Family, Awana, Moody and others in his new efforts. "Sixty-five percent of our kids are walking away from church as soon as they graduate from high school," he notes. "This is a crisis. We all need to work together to develop and promote solutions."

TV Station in Philippines Needs Cartoons and Content
We are currently putting together a family-friendly, kid-friendly, clean and wholesome TV station with Christian value-programming for most of the week, with Saturdays and Sundays as our teaching and preaching times. Right now we need content, programming, stuff to put on the air. Would you know anyone who has Christian cartoons or other good Christian content that we can put on the air? We're just starting this new venture so there is no advertising money to be had as yet, but if any does come in, we will definitely make sure the content providers get their share of any revenue we might be able to attract.
